It Be Hot Out!

Well, just dropped the boy off at college again. Usually I try to hit up a few knitting stores on my travels but there's something just not right about knitting when it is over 100 degrees out, no it just isn't right . . . It's just going to have to cool off a bit before I get my knitting mojo back.

Satay Anyone?

It's always nice to knit something for one of your kids and they actually like it.  There's just a feeling of satisfaction about it, I can't describe.  The slouchy hat - big success.  The actually knitting of it, not so much.  I mean, who ever invented double pointed needles anyway?  And why do they cost so much?  I'm looking at these things thinking I just paid $8 for a set of 5 bamboo skewers!  I could have just paid $1.99 and gotten 50 of them at the grocery store.  On top of that, I'm knitting, and all I can think about is satay.  I mean, come on.......So the adventure began with magic loop and some very lovely knit picks harmony needles.  I'm in love......

What ever posessed me to take up knitting?

Lets start with a little historical review.
1968 - Aunts try to teach me to knit.  Ok, I can knit but can't cast on, purl, or bind off.  So what good is it?
1974 - Dabble in macrame.  Knitting is put by the wayside.
1984 - Decided I really wanted to learn to knit.  Took a class at the lys.  Old lady wants us to dive right in and knit a sampler sweater.  All kinds of fancy stitches.  UGLY bright blue acrylic yarn.  Knew I would never wear that sweater.  Knitted till my fingers hurt, the cat finally got curious about the yarn and well the rest is history.  End of knitting for this decade.
2008 - Ok, it's been a very long time I know.  The faux fur scarf frenzy is in full swing. Pay $50 for a scarf? or pick up the needles again.  I try, and success.  Knit many many scarves.  I kinda like knitting but life is busy and I only know how to knit scarves.  Still can't get the purl thing right though.
2011 - I start to crochet.  That's going pretty well.  Pick up knitting again and you know, I really really like it.  It's like my meditation.  Daughter at college doesn't want anything materialistic for Christmas.  Wants eco friendly, handmade, gifts.  Son sees what I am making, wants hat and scarf for himself.  I see beautiful shawls, not to mention beautiful yarns, georgous multicolored wooded needles and Ravelry.  Thank god for you tube.  I can now purl!, cast on multiple ways, knit in the round, read a pattern.  This is only the start of my life in stitches.
